Porto is the second largest city of Portugal, located in the north of the country on the Atlantic Ocean. Its name means “a port” and it was the function of the settlement that was known as early as in 5th century, founded by the Celts or Romans. Porto’s old town is UNESCO-World-Heritage-listed. The city is located on the river Duero across which six bridges have been thrown. The Luiz I Bridge is the most famous – its name is meant to commemorate king Luiz I. It was designed by the architect from the group of Gustav Eiffle, the famous constructor of the Paris tower.
