Colorful fasades of houses situated on the banks of the Onyar river are considered as one of Girona’s landmarks. These buildings differ from the other architectural objects of the city, which were built of pale beige sandstone. The cathedral, Roman baths, buildings in the Jewish district and city walls emanate with raw dignified beauty. The tenement houses, which reflect in the Onyar river, seem to be extremely colorful and light in comparison with the sandstone buildings. The river banks are spanned by a few bridges – Puente de la Princesa is best known bridge, on the railings of which lovers hang padlocks as a sign of their eternal love. The steel red bridge Pont de les Peixateries Velles is also well known.
