Mantua lies in the Italian municipality of Lombardy. It is a picturesque town located between three artificial lakes. In Mantua visitors will find many historic monuments and places to visit. Among the places that are worth seeing it is a must to mention St. Peter's Cathedral and Ducal Palace (Italian: Palazzo Ducale), in which the representatives of the Gonzaga family resided. Giuseppe Verdi's opera Rigoletto is set in Mantua as well as some parts of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Since 1997 Mantua has hosted one of the most renowned literary festivals in Europe.
