Graz is the capital of the Austrian federal state of Styria, situated on the Mur River. The old town of Graz with the 15th-century Cathedral of St. Giles, the arsenal from the 17th century, the town hall and clock tower, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Graz Art Museum has been the landmark of the city since 2003 as it is architecturally contrasting with the traditional buildings of old town. The building has a rounded shape, resembling a sea creature or a creature from outer space - the architects who designed the building, Peter Cook and Colin Fournier – call it the Friendly Alien. The museum is covered with blue acrylic panels.
