Manhattan is the heart of New York, the most populous city of the United States. This borough is home to the most important public institutions, the world's largest corporations and international organizations. On September 11, 2001 the largest terrorist attack in the history of America on the World Trade Center killed nearly 3,000 people. Residents of the city experienced trauma, many of them lost their loved ones, and for all the Americans this attack violated their values. In order to honor the memory of the victims, the Tribute in Light was constructed in the form of two beams of light directed into the sky in the place where the destroyed WTC skyscrapers stood.
