Caravanserai is a kind of inn located by major transportation routes. The caravanserais were the places where caravans stopped to let the animals rest and protect from the sun as well as perform ablutions. Inns of this type were particularly popular in the Middle East and Central Asia. They usually had an open courtyard and arcaded cloister with numerous recesses, where the goods transported by a caravan were placed and pack camels were tied. Büyük Han is located in Cyprus, Nicosia and is one of the most famous caravanserais that have been preserved. Büyük Han caravanserai was built in 1572 by the Turks. It has a mosque and fountain, where visitors can perform ablutions before a prayer.
