Venice is known primarily as the city of love, but love is not the only force that manifests itself in this city. According to the psychoanalytic concept of Sigmund Freud, a man is governed by two basic instincts - love and death – embodied by ancient gods Eros and Thanatos. Venice is a city in which, as in human life, these two forces are interwoven. Walking around the city we cannot ignore its charm and romantic atmosphere, but also the destructive influence of water and moisture on its exquisite architecture. On the one hand visitors can enjoy the splendor of burgher houses and palaces, and on the other they cannot escape from the signs of their destruction.
