The Island of Youth is located near Treptow park in Berlin and it may be reached by Abteibrücke, one of the oldest reinforced concrete bridges in Germany. The pedestrian crossing over the Spree River was built by French and Russian prisoners of war in 1916. On both banks of the river it is crowned with characteristic bridge towers. The island covers an area of 1.8 hectares and is ideal for a walk or picnic. Concerts, theater performances and other cultural events are also organized here. Its name refers to the youth club, which has been based on the island for several decades.
